Revolutionary New Hand-foam is First to be
7th Jan 2010More effective than alcohol. Kills Swine Flu virus. No ethical concerns for Muslims.
A Manchester based firm have created a global first in the world of hygiene; an alcohol-free hand wash that is more effective than the current NHS standard alcohol cleaner and is also Halal certified. Many Muslims face a genuine dilemma as they attempt to protect themselves and their families from everyday germs such as hospital superbugs and the swine flu virus, but they avoid the use of current NHS and market leading alcohol based hand-gels on religious and ethical grounds.
The revolutionary new antimicrobial technology could save thousands of lives because it has been proven to deliver superior protection against the swine flu virus and hospital superbugs. Byotrol is unique because it delivers long-lasting antimicrobial protection, which keeps working on hands for up to 17 hours compared to alcohol based hand hygiene products which stop working as soon as they dry. Being alcohol free and Halal certified means it can be used by the Muslim community with absolute confidence; not only is it ethical, but it is significantly better than the alternative.
The world’s Muslim population is currently 1.8 billion, and increasing. There are 19 UK cities in the UK where Muslims account for over 10% of the population. 2.3 million Muslims live in the UK, and the UK Halal market is over £2.9 billion. With all this taken into account, Byotrol’s Halal certified hand-foam, which is more effective than alcohol hand-gels, is a welcome development indeed.
Byotrol’s revolutionary new hand-foam, which uses water based micro-polymer technology, has become the first ever product of its kind to be certified “Halal” (meaning permissible) by the European Halal Development Agency (EHDA).
Mohammad Nazir Chairman of the EHDA, welcomed the breakthrough. “This development is truly excellent news for the many practicing Muslims around the world that have strong ethical concerns over contact with alcohol.
I see great potential for this product in schools, hospitals, public events, international aid or basically anywhere with a Muslim population who may feel uncomfortable about using an alcohol based product. The EHDA certification is not just about non-alcohol but also about all the ingredients being from Halal sources, combined with the fact that the production process conforms to Halal requirements.”
David McRobbie, CEO Byotrol said: “We have focussed on delivering easier, cleaner and safer lives for everyone and to achieve this we have attempted to position our technology and products where they can meet the demands of the end users. This has been achieved by consultation at all levels and clear, visible certification. In this way we can remove complexity and still offer an effective yet simple to use hygiene solution.”
Byotrol is unique due to its polymer-based structure which forms an invisible protective layer on any surface, be it human hands or a hospital floor, which allows it to continue killing bugs for hours after being applied, unlike alcohol products which stop working as soon as they dry. Its manufacturers are now pressing for its use throughout the NHS. Independent laboratory tests have demonstrated Byotrol’s effectiveness in killing the swine flu virus and have also shown that Byotrol kills viruses for at least 17 hours after application to hard surfaces - unlike conventional disinfectants which stop working when dry.
Stephen Falder, Deputy Chairman and inventor of Byotrol, said “Our hand-foam is not a compromise for Muslims. In fact it offers superior technology delivering long-lasting protection from hospital super bugs and viruses. It is proven to be more effective than the NHS alcohol gels, and also even their bleach based hard surface cleaning products, but it is kinder to skin.
This is a massive step forward for hospital hygiene, not just for Muslims but for all healthcare workers. Alcoholic hand-washes may soon be a thing of the past, nurses complain of dry and damaged skin caused by alcohol hand-wash, prisoners may consume it and many Muslims will not touch alcohol and, to top it all, it isn’t even effective when you consider that it stops working as soon as it evaporates – which is almost immediately.
Things have moved forward, and Byotrol’s water based micro-polymer technology is leading this change. Finally, hygiene practices can come out of the dark age.”
